Chosing Electives for Middle School

My goodness.  I just want to jot some of my thoughts down while they're fresh.  I know that Tuesday was rather chaotic.  However, I think it was a great learning experience. 

Firstly, our process worked.  We have a completed document of next year’s middle schoolers and their choices for electives. No one has to take the papers and transfer the analog data to a spreadsheet. It is done for us.
 
Next, perhaps next year the 5th graders could all just fill out the form as they go through my class or Andrea’s (whomever has 5th grade 2nd semester).  This would cut down on the noise and trouble of extra kids in the auditorium and troubled looks from 5th grade teachers.
 
Next, since idle hands are the devil’s workshop, I think it would be wise to have the 8th graders do something besides sit in the back of the auditorium with nothing to do but talk, yell, and cause disruptions.  Perhaps they could go outside and have a basketball or soccer game.  Maybe they could go outside and pick up trash as a service to the school, community, and all of humanity.  I don't know…I'm just blah blah.
 
Else, perhaps we could bring each  of our MS classes through the lab instead of breaking them down by grade level.
